Wagon & other facilities
In Trans Mongolian train, there are train # 5/6 and # 3/4 and train # 23/24.One train has around 12 carriages; it looks like big land “Anaconda”. In the train carriage, there has the carriage hallway, water boiler, which is mentioned earlier for packing is handy for brushing your teeth, toilets, and 9 cabins (2 x 2 meters) divided as 2 classes in Russian and Mongolian train named as FIRST CLASS and SECOND CLASS and 3 classes named as DELUXE CLASS, SOFT SLEEPER CLASS and HARD SLEEPER in Chinese train.
Standard second class has four comfortable berths (~185cm x 65cm), per cabin, with 36 people in each carriage.
There are communal toilets and wash-basin at both ends of each carriage. In each carriage, the toilet facilities are the same. Toilet rooms are small (~ 1.5x1.5 meter with some exceptions). The wagon attendants lock toilets approximately 30-60 minutes before and after major cities (stops). Remember to carry your toilet paper.
In first class there are just two berths per cabin and only 18 beds (~185cm x 65cm). On train #3/4/6/5 and Chinese train #23 out of Beijing there is also first class deluxe carriage, with a shower room shared between two cabins. Second class tends to be very social with cabin doors left open during the day and people chatting in the corridors, whereas in first class there is a little more space in the cabin and so you tend to keep the door closed.
The advantage of first class apart from the extra privacy if you are traveling as a couple will be fewer queues for the toilet in the morning and you are closer to the dining car!
